Design Choices

Feed

The core task relied heavily upon the buttons located on the user's feed, so their was an emphasis on ensuring that iconography communicated the function of each button effectively.

Each button also provides visual feedback to users to create a "button feeling."  The color of a button undergoes a state change from hovering, to clicking, and then releasing.  The size of a button will also change when clicked to give the appearance that it is pressed down.  It was important that each of these state changes be very subtle, however, as to not draw too much of the user's attention.

Additionally, an animation is played upon clicking to indicate the result of pressing a button.  For example, a resume will slide off the screen upon liking or skipping, and will return from off the screen upon rewinding.  These animations also produce the effect of the resumes appearing to be like a "stack of paper."

Chat

It was important that users be able to examine the resume of their chat partner while simultaneously communicating, so the chat page was designed to have 1/3 of its space designated to the chat window, and the remainder to the resume viewer.  The chat window itself provides information such as date and time in such a way that it is not intrusive on the conversation itself.

Messages are also spaced apart reasonably, varying depending on whom and when the most recent message was sent.  The date stamps also will indicate if messages were sent "Today" or "Yesterday."  These smaller details produce a sense of time, while retaining consistency in appearance.

Colors and Style

We wanted to maintain a modern and enjoyable aesthetic for the app.

The same color scheme was maintained throughout the application to stay consistent from a user perspective.  The selected 4 colors avoid oversaturation and are kept simple to focus the user on the interactions they are having.  The colors blue and yellow were specifically chosen because they are associated with trust and happiness, respectively.

Furthermore, resDeck's design is minimalist, as to once again enable users to focus on the core task of reviewing resumes.  The feed page is kept very bare-bones, resulting in the current resume being the focal point.
